Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy

What are the differences between the two genres? There can't be much...libraries and bookstores constantly shelve them together. The students seem to have a pretty good grasp of the differnces already. They boil down to whether or not science is involved as the cause of the fantastical. Which, we decided as a class, means that some zombie stories are fantasy while others are science fiction.
